Our emphasis on card accessibility
Genesis has always taken pride in putting card accessibility at the forefront of our product configuration. Upgraded rarities have always been some alternate treatment of a “Rare” or lesser card, meaning no needing to chase multiple “Epic Rares” unless you wanted to bling out your deck.
Invasion continues this philosophy and takes into consideration community feedback that says, though accessibility is very important, there’s joy in having something really cool looking to show off as well.
With that in mind, here are some of the major changes you can expect to see when opening Invasion.

Spot Foiling is here!
In the past, our foils have been an intense, full card treatment that has certainly stood out in a pack, but to really make shine the amazing detail of our beautiful artwork, we are thrilled to bring the spot foiling treatment to Invasion cards. As it stands, this treatment will be applied to all foiled cards! We can’t wait to see those sweet pulls shine!
An additional card is invading our Genesis boosters (see what we did there)! You’ll soon learn we have added a lot to Invasion to tap into the joy of collecting and completing sets and series, but we wanted to ensure the amazing Limited formats of Genesis remained unfettered. With such a long history, Invasion is an incredible representation of how we feel about the game right now and where we feel it could go. To honor this, we thought, “why not let our fans, new and old, appreciate the steps that took us here?”
Amidst the beautiful new creations outlined below, Invasion will also feature “classic” cards, starting from the out-of-print Raze set and moving backwards. This means that every pack will include something truly special from the rich history of Genesis: Battle of Champions.
Bringing the Thrill of Collecting through Secrets, Sketches, and Showcases
It’s one thing to open up a foil card or cool variant, but we missed the thrill of doing so knowing that it’s a part of a greater collection. Seeing a series together in a binder, connecting with the community to acquire, not just “something you don’t have,” but the final card of a compilation. In addition to spot foils, Invasion brings 2 new card types, plus a reimagining of the Secrets that we introduced in Origins, to the card pool. Staying true to our values in focusing on variants instead of functional-uniqueness, these collections aim to add excitement in opening product and instill a real pride of ownership when you acquire a missing piece.
The Origins set introduced our first “Secrets,” a small collection of beautifully reimagined art pieces from our Art Director, Damjan Gorgievski. This includes the stunning Proteus artwork the served as the first surprise spoiler for Invasion.
Damjan’s masterful vision of the look of Jaelara has been used to create and guide our art team to the brilliant pieces seen throughout Genesis. For the Invasion expansion, we’ve flipped this on its head, and given those talented team members the reins to create pieces in their own original styles.

If you haven’t figured it out, we LOVE the work that our artists do and, really, that’s what’s the most fun to show off. Beautiful treatments of beautiful artwork. Along with the current Normal and Epic rares you’re used to seeing, Invasion introduces the Sketch Rare, giving you a glimpse a the journey to get from early sketches of a final piece and rounding out a cool triptych for you to show off your favorite cards! Filip Radicevski has been on the Genesis project since Alpha and has created majority of the pieces in the game. Alongside of Damjan and Mario, the three of them helped create and bring Jaelara to life.
Though Filip has taken on a lot of pieces, and has his name attached to many staples in the game (like majority of the Champions, Dedicated Studies, Winged Alate, Deceit, and many others) he has never taken the center stage and really showed us his true potential. This showcase allows you to see Filip's true form…and we guarantee you’ll love watching this series come together!
